Student Work Placement Program

CHRC is pleased to announce the 2024-2025 Student Work Placement program (SWP) application form intake will open on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 at Noon EDT.

The SWP internship subsidies help employers hire post-secondary students by providing wage subsidies of 50% to a maximum of $5,000 for internships between April 1st, 2024 and the end of January 2025. Subsidies may be increased to 70% with a maximum of $7,000 for students confirmed to be part of a priority group (to learn more about priority groups, click here). The funds may be used to employ students from all academic fields to gain work experience.

The three key evaluation criteria are:

  • The employer (employment only, independent contracts are not eligible) must be a (non-governmental) cultural sector establishment (profit or non-profit).
  • The student must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution, must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the laws and regulations of the province or territory in which they are employed, and the student must either be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person granted refugee protection under the law (NB, the student can be chosen after the application is submitted). International students are not admissible in this program.
  • The job description should be related to the student’s field of study and thus enable the student to apply their knowledge and/or allow the student to develop skills for the labour market.

The application form only requires 20 minutes to complete if the applicant has a job description at the ready. CRHC aims to provide a decision on subsidy awards within two weeks of submitted applications. The form will close from time to time in order to process requests in a timely manner.
